Projects and Programmes
Pobail le Chéile has won funding to undertake several special community programmes in Cloughaneely and surrounding districts, these are explained in more detail below - and we are always in need of volunteers with even a few hours free to lend a hand in this valuable work
Change For the Better (CFB) - Targeting Alcohol-Related Harm at Community level
Financed through the Dormant Accounts Fund, this two year programme aims to inform and educate the wider community on the ways to reduce alcohol-related harm.Project Worker Kathleen Gallagher is now in post to deliver this unique programme.The programme aims to mobilise the community in a number of ways.- Work with Young People through PCC, youth clubs and sports groups.
- Community events and public meetings.
- Training in Responsible Serving of Alcohol (RSA) for people working in retail and hospitality sectors.
- Drama, music and video/photographic projects
Current projects include:
- A specially produced alcohol awareness module for SPHE teachers.
- A collaborative drama project with Dunfanaghy Resource Centre on the issues surrounding alcohol related harm
- A 'Walk Tall' workshop with primary school children
Maidin Mhaith Chloich Cheannfhaola - A Telephone Link Line for older people
Financed through INTERREG IIIA and in partnership with HSE and CAWT, this telephone service provides older people with a friendly call several times a week.
- Staffed wholly by local volunteers.
- Delivered through Gaeilge and English.
- Covers Mainland and Islands.
- Located in the Pobail le Chéile office, Gortahork.
- Free, Confidential and Reliable.
- Supported by Good Morning Inishowen in Buncrana.
- We are ALWAYS looking for new people to subscribe to the service
Documenting Poverty Across Donegal
Funded by Combat Poverty Agency, Pobail le Chéile is administering this innovative action research project involving all 9 Donegal CDPs - aiming to document and evidence the nature and extent of poverty in the County.
- Involving people who directly experience poverty.
- Produce a readable and unseful report.
- Provide a guide for action and co-operation of CDPs and other Anti-Poverty groups in Donegal.
- Project will complete its work and report before the end of November 2007
Developing a Centre for Youth Arts, Recreation and Drama in Falcarragh (Y.A.R.D)
A central aim of Pobail le Chéile, this youth centre will be open and running before the end of 2007 on the road between PCC and the town Centre. It will be staffed by youth workers and trained volunteers providing a range of activities and it will be available to other youth groups who need a safe and insured space to work, practice or play!
- Provide a safe and dry lunch-time venue during school term.
- Operate a Drop-In Health Café and Youth Venue.
- After-School centre for over 13s with TV, pool, computers etc.
- A totally Alcohol and Drug-Free alternative for Falcarragh.
- Drama, music and video/photographic projects.
- 1st Floor bands room, cinema and music venue.
- Volunteers needed to make this centre the best possible place for 13-18 year olds
Targeting Vulnerable and Isolated People in Cloughaneely and Dunfanaghy
- This action research project is being funded by the Department of Social & Family Affairs and will help Pobail Le chéile identify and talk with vulnerable and isolated people to find out what they need to take up services and improve their quality of life.
- Involves the CDP and Dunfanaghy Resource Centre.
- Helps people say what they want & have their voices heard.
- Links people into local supports, services and community projects.
- Improves life and community in Dunfanaghy and Cloughaneely.
