Aos Óg - Youth
An óige a spreagadh le bheith gníomhach agus páirteach ina bhforbairt fein...
We believe that many of the needs of young people are not being met in today's society and our community needs to pull together to help young people make the transition to adulthood in a healthy and safe way. Many young people can be particularly 'at risk' through difficult family circumstances, through alcohol or substance abuse, dangerous behaviours or economic, educational or emotional poverty. It is these young people we are particularly reaching out to support.
Pobail le Chéile supports youth work in Cloughaneely and in the county as a whole. We are active members of Donegal Youth Service and our coordinator is the chair of the new LGBT youth initiative called BreakOut!
The World Health Organisation defines youth as between the years of 12 and 25 and we strive to offer challenges, opportunities and inspiration to people in that stage of their life.
Our youth work includes:
- Operating a twice-weekly supervised Drop-in centre at the YARD which is affiliated to the Donegal Youth Service. Young People can call in, make tea or coffee, play table tennis, fus-ball, pool, darts, use the IT suite or just hang out with friends.

- The project has a muti-use Youth centre in the YARD - which stands for YOUTH ARTS RECREATION & DRAMA. We have a media room with a small cinema, a 150 seat activity hall with stage, and a youth café and drop-in centre on the ground floor.

- Trips and outings - we organise an outing or event every month or so, as well as the weekly drop-in, these include, outdoor pursuits & Gartan, Bowling, Fireworks in Derry, Karting in Letterkenny etc....
- Special classes and workshops - we organise small group activity like computer gaming, digital photography, web-site development, Youth page in Glór don Phobal, film and video etc...
- We supported the Creative Writing Youth Initiative called 15/17 which published 2 editions of the the poetry book OPEN UP!
- Journalism Project - This innovative project gave 9 young people the opportunity to learn media skills, produce three issues of the newsletter Glór don Phobal, and then go on and produce the daily festival bulletin for the Guth Gafa international film festival.
- We also undertake personal development programmes, community gardening, cooking, debates and discussions of youth issues - come along and be part or the YARD experience
